Transgender Woman Starr Brown Murdered in Memphis, Man Charged with Homicide

Memphis, Tennessee – A tragic incident has rocked the community of Memphis, Tennessee, as a Black transgender woman named Starr Brown was shot dead in the North Rolling Woods Drive area near Scenic Hills Elementary School. The medical examiner ruled her death as a homicide, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

Local authorities reported that Starr Brown was found with a fatal gunshot wound after a call was made to the police at 9.30am on April 19. A suspect, identified as Alexavier Williamson, a co-worker of Brown at a Cordova restaurant, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.

It was noted that Brown’s identity and pronouns were misgendered by media outlets and authorities, shining a light on the ongoing issue of misgendering transgender individuals in reports relating to violence against the transgender community.
