SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A tragic incident occurred in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento County when a 10-year-old boy took a stolen gun from his father’s car and used it to fatally shoot another 10-year-old boy. The shooting took place on Saturday at around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Greenholme Drive. Deputies arrived at the scene and attempted to save the victim by administering CPR, but he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The victim was identified as Keith “KJ” Frierson by family members.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation revealed that the suspected 10-year-old shooter had taken the gun from his father’s vehicle, where he also found cigarettes. After retrieving the gun, he reportedly bragged about it before shooting the other 10-year-old and fleeing into a nearby apartment. The sheriff’s office also discovered that the accused shooter’s father, 53-year-old Arkete Davis, was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. The firearm used in the shooting was found in a nearby trashcan and was reported stolen in 2017. Davis was subsequently arrested and faces several charges, including child endangerment and being an accessory after the fact.
The Sheriff Jim Cooper expressed his dismay over the incident, labeling it as tragic and completely avoidable. He also highlighted the issue of irresponsible parenting and the illegal possession of firearms by individuals who are not allowed to have them. Cooper emphasized the need to address the problem of illegally possessing guns and using them to commit violent crimes. The 10-year-old suspect is currently in custody and facing a murder charge.
The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of irresponsible gun ownership and the impact it has on young lives. The authorities are working to ensure that justice is served and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
