EATON COUNTY, Mich. — An outing turned tragic when a vehicle plowed into a family walking together, leading to a shooting that resulted in the death of a young child and injured three others, according to sheriff’s deputies. The violent incident unfolded Friday evening, drawing attention to troubling patterns of violence in the community.
Authorities reported that the chaos began around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Green Meadows Lane and Farmstead Lane, situated west of Lansing in Delta Township. Witnesses say the suspect drove into the family and subsequently exited the vehicle, opening fire on them without warning.
In addition to the family members, a bystander who attempted to intervene was also severely injured during the incident. The child succumbed to injuries sustained from the attack, while a 72-year-old woman is in critical condition. Two other victims, a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were hospitalized but are now in stable condition.
Shortly after the shooting, law enforcement officers from both the sheriff’s department and state police apprehended the suspect, whose identity has yet to be disclosed. Investigators confirmed that the suspect is facing multiple felony charges related to the attack and remains in custody at the Eaton County Jail.
The situation prompted officials to issue an active-shooter alert, instructing residents in the area to take precautions and remain indoors until the threat was neutralized.
