Tragedy Strikes: Georgia Teenathlete Fatally Shot on Prom Weekend, Bright Future Cut Short

COLUMBUS, Georgia – A tragic incident during prom weekend has left a Georgia father mourning the loss of his 16-year-old son, Daryus Bryant, who was fatally shot. Described as excelling in both athletics and academics by Manchester High School officials, Daryus had a promising future ahead of him.

The heartbreaking shooting took place at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Crystal Drive in Columbus early Sunday morning. Two victims, including Daryus and another Manchester student named Clarence Favors, were found in separate cars suffering from gunshot wounds. Daryus succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, while Clarence underwent surgery.

Daryus’ father, Cartarsman Bryant, expressed deep sorrow over his son’s untimely death, emphasizing the need for changes in gun laws and political action to address escalating gun violence. Described as a humble young man and a dedicated student-athlete, Daryus was not involved in street gangs or any illicit activities.

Known as “D.B.” to his peers, Daryus was a standout athlete at Manchester High, leading his teams to championships in football, basketball, and track. With numerous college offers and a promising future in sports, his father lamented the loss of potential opportunities that Daryus was robbed of due to the senseless violence he encountered.

Addressing the perpetrator responsible for his son’s death, Cartarsman Bryant conveyed a message of grief and determination, highlighting the impact of Daryus’ loss on their family and community. The tragic incident marks the second time in a year that a Manchester student has fallen victim to gun violence, underscoring the urgent need for justice and action.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, no arrests have been made yet. The Bryant family, along with the Manchester community, remains united in seeking justice for Daryus and standing against the cycle of violence that has claimed the lives of young individuals like him.
