HENDERSON, Nevada — A tragic road rage incident claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy, stirring deep sadness and outrage in the community. The boy, identified as Brandon Dominguez, was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle when he was shot during a confrontation between two drivers on a congested freeway.
Distressing police bodycam footage reveals the dramatic moments immediately following the shooting. In the video, Valente Ayala, Brandon’s stepfather, is seen overcome with grief, telling officers, “My kid is dead.” He was present at the scene as Tyler Matthew Johns, the suspected shooter, surrendered to police. The suspect reportedly admitted, “It’s 100 percent my fault” and expressed the shock of not knowing a child was in the car.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on November 14, as both drivers attempted to change lanes on the busy freeway near Henderson. After a verbal exchange, the situation escalated, leading to Johns allegedly firing a shot from his handgun. Police Chief Reggier Rader described the exchanges as part of a dangerous confrontation that ultimately resulted in a child’s death.
Brandon did not die immediately at the scene; rather, he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite emergency medical efforts. Following the gunfire, Ayala reportedly collided with Johns’ vehicle, and the two exited their cars, leading to a physical altercation on the side of the road.
Johns, 22, now faces multiple charges, including open murder and firing a weapon within a vehicle. Authorities confirmed that he was the only person in the encounter with a firearm and currently remains in custody at the Henderson Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
Community leaders and law enforcement officials have urged drivers to practice patience and caution, especially as the holiday season approaches. Chief Rader emphasized that road rage incidents can lead to devastating consequences and called for drivers to be mindful of each other during times of high traffic and heightened emotions.
This incident continues to be under investigation, with police reaching out to the public for any additional information. In light of this tragedy, the community mourns the loss of a young life and stands united in calls for greater compassion and responsibility on the roads.
