Toddler Fatally Shot at Wichita Apartment Complex, Two Men Charged

Wichita, Kansas – Two individuals are facing charges in connection with the tragic death of a toddler who was shot and killed at an apartment complex near Pawnee and Oliver. K’Veion Richard and Jonathan Tillery-Matthias made an appearance in Sedgwick County Court where they were charged with first-degree murder in the killing of one-year-old Taidyn Anderson. Additionally, both men are facing charges for criminal discharge of a firearm.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded when shots were fired into their unit at the Sugar Creek Apartments, with Anderson’s mother holding him at the time. The gunfire resulted in injuries to both the mother and the toddler, along with the mother’s sister being struck as well. Fortunately, a man and two other children present in the apartment were unharmed.

Richard and Tillery-Matthias are currently being detained in the Sedgwick County Jail on a bond set at $1.5 million. Their next court appearance is scheduled for March 6th at 9:30 a.m. Additionally, a 17-year-old detained in connection with the case had a detention hearing, where he was ordered to remain in the detention facility until his first court appearance on March 26 at 8:30 a.m.
