Philadelphia, PA – A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday night in North Philadelphia, where a Temple University student lost his life in a shooting. The victim, identified as Chase Myles, a native of Bowie, Maryland, was a student at the Klein College of Media and Communication.
The shooting took place around 11 p.m. in the 1500 block of N. Carlisle Street, just outside off-campus housing for Temple students. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong, leading to the fatal shooting of Myles, 20, who was found with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Upon police arrival, Myles was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. Chief Inspector Scott Small from the Philadelphia Police Department stated that there were indications of narcotics involvement, as a bag with what appeared to be marijuana was discovered at the scene. Another Temple student, a 23-year-old, was taken into custody for questioning, while a third person, also a Temple student, was brought in as a witness.
Temple University expressed its grief over Myles’ untimely death, highlighting his positive impact within the Klein community. The university urged students to utilize support services at Tuttleman Counseling Services during this difficult time. The loss of Myles has left a void within the Temple and Klein communities, as students and faculty mourn the promising young student’s tragic end.
