Teen Arrested for Violent Church Attack in Queens: Charged with Robbery at Knifepoint

Queens, New York – A teenager is facing charges for a violent attack on a 68-year-old woman outside a church in Queens, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. The 16-year-old suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, has also been linked to another robbery incident earlier. District Attorney Katz described the robbery as “vicious” and highlighted the severity of the crime.

The incident occurred as the elderly woman was on her way to church, walking up a flight of stairs before being allegedly pushed by the teen, causing her to fall and sustain injuries. Surveillance video captured the attacker then taking the victim’s belongings, including $300, a cellphone, a credit card, and car keys, before fleeing the scene in her car. The victim was left in critical condition as a result of the attack, and the teen was later apprehended near his residence.

In addition to the church robbery, the suspect is also accused of another robbery that took place on April 4 in Queens. In that incident, he reportedly followed a woman into an elevator, demanded money and keys to her vehicle, and indicated possession of a weapon. The victim complied, handing over her belongings, including her car keys, before the teen drove off in her car.

The teenager now faces a host of charges related to both incidents, including assault, robbery, larceny, and possession of stolen property. If convicted, he could potentially face up to 25 years in prison for the crimes. The authorities continue to investigate both cases to ensure justice is served for the victims affected by these violent acts.
