Sword Attack Leads to 37-Year Sentence for Woman Who Killed Wife During Heated Argument

San Dimas, California — A woman was sentenced to 37 years to life in prison on Monday after being convicted of fatally stabbing her wife with a sword during a domestic dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation. Weichien Huang, 45, was found guilty of murder and attempted murder following a jury trial in October.

Prosecutors revealed that the tragic incident unfolded on July 18, 2024, when Huang and her wife, Chen Chen Fei, 47, engaged in a heated argument regarding their ongoing divorce. According to the evidence presented, the couple’s dispute turned fatal when Huang seized a katana sword kept in their home, using it to strike Fei 13 times in a brutal attack.

Hsi Wei Huang, Fei’s mother, witnessed the aftermath when she burst into the room and found her daughter lying on the floor in a pool of blood. In a harrowing turn, prosecutors stated that Huang then attempted to strike her mother-in-law with the same weapon multiple times. Hsi Wei Huang managed to grasp the sword by its blade, leading to severe injuries as she escaped the situation.

Law enforcement authorities arrived to find Fei deceased at the scene and Huang in a distressed state, lying beside a medication bottle, suggesting she had attempted to take her own life. The chaotic events shocked the San Dimas community, sending ripples of concern throughout the neighborhood.

During the trial, Deputy District Attorney Brittany Saleeby characterized Huang as “angry, dangerous, violent, and controlling,” illustrating the psychological aspects of the case. Despite the evidence presented against her, Huang claimed she had no memory of the fatal events, a defense that failed to sway the jury.

Huang did not make any remarks during her sentencing; however, her mother-in-law delivered a poignant statement from Taiwan through a Mandarin interpreter. She expressed bewilderment at the motivations behind the brutal attack, stating, “I don’t understand what kind of hate will lead her to kill like that.”

Hsi Wei Huang went further by describing Huang’s actions as vampiric, implying a disturbing enjoyment in the violence: “She was using the sword trying to suck as much blood from people like a vampire… There was no regret at all, acting like a vampire.” Her statements underscored the pain and dismay felt by the family.

The case highlights the tragic consequences of domestic violence, which continues to be a pervasive issue in many communities. The severity of Huang’s actions serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for resources and support for individuals in similar circumstances. As families and communities grapple with the aftermath of such incidents, discussions around preventive measures and support systems remain critical.
