Suspect Wanted in Connection with Crumbl Cookies Armed Robbery Shoots Monroeville Police Officer

MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A Monroeville police officer was shot at least three times by a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery of a Crumbl Cookies store in the Miracle Mile shopping center. The armed robbery took place just after 9 p.m., and fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

The suspect, who matched the description of the armed robbery suspect, was found near the intersection of Monroeville Boulevard and Stonecliffe Drive by a Monroeville Police supervisor. When the officer approached the suspect, the suspect fired at the police cruiser, hitting the officer at least three times in the elbow and hip. The officer’s cruiser was also hit multiple times, but the officer was taken to Forbes Hospital in stable condition and was alert and talking.

Additional officers responded to the area and took the suspect into custody at the Stonecliffe Apartments without incident. Two handguns were recovered from the suspect, and a total of 16 shell casings were found at the scene. The suspect is expected to be charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and assault of a law enforcement officer.

This marks the second time in recent months that a Monroeville Police officer was shot. In November, an officer was shot in the arm and the leg in Allegheny Township. The officer who was wounded in November has not yet returned to work. Allegheny County Police are currently investigating the shooting in Monroeville.
