Hollow Water, Manitoba – A violent incident has left one person dead and another deceased after a series of stabbings in the Hollow Water First Nation on Thursday. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that at least six individuals were hospitalized following the attacks, prompting a heightened police presence in the area.
Emergency services responded to the scene early Thursday morning after a “serious incident” was reported before 8:30 a.m. Police confirmed that multiple victims were taken to health facilities, where they received urgent medical attention. Hospital officials reported that eight patients arrived at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre, with some conditions requiring immediate air transfer via STARS air ambulance to ensure prompt treatment.
Jordan Hamilton and Christy Williams shared that their father, Michael Raven, was one of the injured. According to the siblings, a home invasion occurred at their father’s residence while he was asleep. When Raven was awoken by an intruder, he was attacked and stabbed multiple times, including a punctured lung from a stab wound to his back. Despite the serious injuries, he remains conscious and communicative, his children noted.
“This has left the entire community rattled,” Williams remarked. “Such violence is uncommon in Hollow Water. This incident does not reflect who we are as a community.” She emphasized the fear that now grips residents following the attack, illustrating a collective sense of shock.
Police have stated that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety and continue to maintain a presence in the community. RCMP have also confirmed that Highway 304 remains closed in both directions near Black River First Nation, approximately 40 kilometers south of Hollow Water, as part of the investigation.
A “code orange” alert was activated at the Health Sciences Centre in response to the mass casualty event, allowing the hospital to prepare for an influx of patients requiring immediate care. Officials have noted that varying degrees of injury were present among the victims transported to the hospital.
As investigators work to uncover the details leading up to the stabbings, the community has rallied together in support of the victims and their families. The atmosphere in Hollow Water, which is home to about 1,100 residents, remains somber as news of this tragic incident spreads.
RCMP are expected to hold a news conference later today in Winnipeg to provide further updates on the situation, as family and community members await more information about the investigation and the well-being of those affected by the violence.
