Pitcairn, Pa. — A 16-year-old has been charged in connection with a double homicide that occurred in June, resulting in the deaths of two classmates. The deceased, Isiah McCarthy and Tyrant Sutton, both from the area, were pronounced dead after being shot near Wall Avenue and Eleanor Street.
Authorities announced Wednesday that Jamon Brookins, also 16, was arrested without incident in Wilmerding. He is currently held at the Allegheny County Jail while facing serious charges including two counts of criminal homicide and one count of robbery.
The tragic incident has stirred emotions in the small community, with many grappling with the loss of young lives. Both McCarthy and Sutton were well-known and beloved figures among their peers, leading to an outpouring of grief and support from local residents following the shooting.
Law enforcement officials have not disclosed specific details surrounding the motive for the shooting, but investigations have indicated a potential connection to a robbery. Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots at the time of the incident, raising alarms that led to an immediate police response.
Community members are now calling for discussions on youth violence and the need for preventive measures in light of the increasing number of incidents involving teenagers and firearms. Local leaders have expressed a desire for more resources aimed at youth engagement and safety programs.
As the case moves forward, the District Attorney’s Office will determine the appropriate legal course. The families of both victims have been informed of Brookins’ arrest and are seeking justice for their sons.
