Shooting on Christmas Day Claims Life of St. Louis Man, Family Left Devastated by Holiday Tragedy

St. Louis, Mo. — The joy of family gatherings on Christmas Day turned to heartbreak for the loved ones of Albert Willis, a beloved community member shot and killed at a gas station. The somber incident, which occurred in the early afternoon, has left family and friends grappling with an unimaginable loss during what is typically a festive time of the year.

Willis’ sister, Scheron Courson, recalled their last conversation filled with holiday spirit. Just two hours before his death, he invited her to dinner, a gathering that would never take place. “I spoke to my brother around noon. Then just two hours later, he’s gone,” Courson said, reflecting on the suddenness of the tragedy.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police arrived at the BP gas station shortly after 2 p.m. last Thursday to find Willis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to witnesses, a dispute arose between Willis and a man and a woman before the gunfire erupted.

“To think he anticipated being home for Christmas, opening gifts and sharing laughter with family—it’s heartbreaking,” said Jordan Pippin, Willis’ niece. “He should have returned to his family that day.”

Willis was known for his daily visits to the gas station, part of his routine where he would buy boiled eggs, oatmeal, and play the lottery. His daughter shared his favorite numbers, emphasizing how much he believed in them. “He would always say to play 58-58,” she said. Adding to the family’s anguish is the knowledge that Willis had been bravely battling cancer prior to his untimely death.

This incident marks yet another blow to the family, who recently faced the loss of Willis’ granddaughter, Trinity Staten, who died just months earlier in a violent incident. “This kind of tragedy shouldn’t happen to anyone,” Pippin expressed, calling for change to prevent such heartbreak in the future.

Willis, widely recognized as a dedicated car salesman in the community, is remembered fondly by colleagues and friends. Former boss Danielle Windmueller spoke of his relentless work ethic and fond conversations about their families. In honor of his memory, she is spearheading a fund to support his grieving family.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help ease the financial burdens left by Willis’ passing, encouraging community support for his loved ones during this devastating time.

In the wake of this tragedy, St. Louis police are actively seeking the public’s help in identifying two suspects, a man and a woman, involved in the shooting. The woman is described as Black, approximately 27 to 30 years old, and of medium build, while the man is said to be Black, between 30 to 35 years old, with a thin build.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Homicide Division directly or to use CrimeStoppers for anonymous tips. Community members hope for justice and a resolution that honors Willis’ memory while seeking to prevent further acts of violence.
