SOUTH GATE, Calif. — A tragic domestic violence incident unfolded early Saturday morning when two women were discovered dead, and another was injured following a shooting at a residence. Authorities reported that the male suspect later died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after exchanging fire with officers responding to the scene.
Police responded to the home on San Luis Avenue just before 2:30 a.m., following a 911 call from a woman claiming a man was firing a weapon inside. Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, who emerged from the house, brandishing a firearm and discharged several shots in their direction. Officers returned fire, prompting the suspect to retreat back into the residence.
As police worked to secure the area, they heard additional gunfire from inside. Officers managed to extricate a 70-year-old woman who had sustained gunshot wounds; she was transported to a nearby hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
Upon clearing the home, law enforcement officials discovered two deceased women. A 25-year-old and a woman in her early 50s were found with gunshot wounds. The suspect, identified as a man in his early 50s, was also found dead, with investigators indicating that he likely took his own life.
Authorities stated that the suspect and the victims are related, suggesting a connection to domestic violence, though specific details about their relationship are yet to be disclosed. A firearm consistent with the weapon used to fire at the responding officers was also recovered from the scene. Thankfully, none of the officers involved sustained injuries during the encounter.
The identities of the deceased will be released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office following notification of next of kin. Investigators are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau or contact Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
