Shooting at Lincoln University’s Homecoming Celebration Leaves One Dead, Multiple Injured as Authorities Investigate Chaos

Lincoln University, Pennsylvania — A shooting during a homecoming celebration left one person dead and at least six others injured Saturday night, local authorities reported. The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the International Cultural Center, where attendees were gathered for post-football game festivities.

Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe confirmed that law enforcement has detained an individual connected to the incident, who was found in possession of a firearm. A chaotic scene ensued as gunfire erupted, prompting celebrations to turn to panic as people fled for cover. Some individuals were reportedly injured while being trampled as they attempted to escape.

Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee expressed his profound disappointment, calling the shooting a tragic disruption of what should have been a joyous occasion for families, friends, and alumni. “This was meant to be a time for reconnecting and celebrating the legacy of Lincoln University, the nation’s first historically Black college,” he said. Partee described the event as a gathering to relive good memories and support the community.

Although the university was briefly placed on lockdown, officials have lifted the restrictions and do not believe there remains an active threat to the campus. “We treat this as an isolated incident rather than an attack on the college,” de Barrena-Sarobe noted during a press briefing. Investigators are currently trying to determine the circumstances leading to the shootings.

Witnesses described a harrowing experience, with some reporting seeing individuals requiring CPR amid the chaos. Tents had been erected in the parking lot for the celebration, signifying a communal space that was abruptly transformed into a scene of violence.

As the university community begins to process the aftermath, counseling services will be made available starting Sunday morning for students and staff affected by the shooting. “We understand the fear and anxiety that this incident has instilled in our community, and we are committed to providing support,” Partee remarked.

Officials have been urged to gather evidence related to the shooting, with investigators appealing for anyone with information to come forward. The Chester County Detectives are leading the inquiry, actively collaborating with federal and state law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.

Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences via social media, affirming his administration’s support for university leadership and local law enforcement. He cautioned residents to avoid the vicinity as investigations continue.

While the condition of the injured remains unclear, authorities are determined to ensure accountability for those responsible. The district attorney emphasized an unrelenting commitment to solving the case and addressing the community’s concerns. “We will not stop until we have identified and apprehended those involved,” de Barrena-Sarobe stated firmly.
