L. OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A shooting during homecoming celebrations at Lincoln University has left one person dead and several others wounded, including a student. The incident occurred amidst festivities that were intended to unite the campus community.
Authorities have confirmed that the injuries to the other victims are not life-threatening. The shooting prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who apprehended a suspect identified as 21-year-old Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson. He faces charges related to carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. However, investigators suspect that more than one assailant may have been involved and are working to determine if the firearm found on Morgan-Thompson was linked to the incident.
Chester County District Attorney Christopher De Barrena-Sarobe stated that preliminary findings suggest the shooting was not premeditated. “We do not believe that the individuals involved had a specific intent to create a large-scale tragedy. It appears to have erupted spontaneously during the homecoming festivities,” he said.
Investigators are delving into the circumstances surrounding the start of the shooting. They are considering whether it resulted from a physical altercation or another provocation. To piece together the sequence of events, law enforcement is utilizing a combination of canine units, video surveillance analysis, and witness interviews. Officials are appealing to the public for any additional footage or information that could aid their investigation.
Classes at Lincoln University have been canceled for Monday, allowing students time to process the events. University officials are coordinating counseling services to support the campus community in the wake of the shooting.
Morgan-Thompson is currently being held on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on November 18. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to clarify all aspects of this tragic incident.
