The deaths on Strawberry Circle remain under investigation as authorities say there is no continuing threat to the surrounding community.
STRAWBERRY, Calif. — Three people were found dead inside a Marin County home Sunday evening after deputies responded to a report of gunfire, launching an investigation that continued into Monday as authorities worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 call was made shortly after 5 p.m. from a home on Strawberry Circle in the unincorporated community of Strawberry, near Mill Valley and Tiburon. A person who had been inside the property was able to get out and meet responding deputies, according to information released at the scene. Deputies then entered the home and found three people dead.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Miguel Almaguer said investigators were examining the identities of the dead, their relationships and the circumstances that led to the shooting. Authorities did not initially release the names of the three people and said the investigation remained active. The Sheriff’s Office also said there was no known continuing threat to the surrounding neighborhood.
Several Bay Area news organizations later reported that two of the people found dead were retired San Francisco Police Department members Kevin Mannix and Ann Mannix. ABC7, citing sources familiar with the case, reported that Kevin Mannix, a former SFPD sergeant, was suspected of fatally shooting Ann Mannix and their daughter before dying by suicide. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office had not publicly confirmed that account early Monday.
Ann Mannix served in senior leadership positions with the San Francisco Police Department before retiring. Department records show that she was promoted to deputy chief of the Field Operations Bureau in 2018 and was later assigned as deputy chief of the Special Operations Bureau in 2019. Kevin Mannix also retired from the San Francisco department after serving as a sergeant.
Reports differed early Monday on the daughter’s age, with some describing her as 24 and others as 25. Authorities had not publicly identified her or provided an official age. The discrepancy underscored the preliminary nature of information emerging in the first hours after the shooting.
Deputies secured the property Sunday evening as investigators prepared to process the residence. Officials said Sunday night that investigators were awaiting a search warrant as part of that work. The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately disclose what evidence had been recovered, whether a firearm had been found or what may have led to the deaths.
The shooting brought a heavy law enforcement presence to Strawberry Circle, a residential street in the unincorporated area of southern Marin County. Authorities asked people to stay away from the area while deputies conducted their investigation. By Sunday night, officials said they did not believe the incident posed a wider danger to the community.
The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the deaths and has not publicly announced a motive or a final determination of what occurred inside the home. Official identification of the dead and additional findings are expected to depend on the continuing investigative and coroner process.
