Recall: Dangerous Adult Bed Rails Pose Asphyxiation Risk, CPSC Warns Consumers

Washington, D.C. — Concerns over safety have prompted the recall of portable adult bed rails from two manufacturers due to a risk of entrapment that could lead to asphyxiation. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has indicated that these bed rails do not comply with established safety standards, putting users at risk of potentially severe injuries.

According to the CPSC, the recalled items present multiple hazards, including inadequate structural stability and improper sizing of push pins and holes, which could result in lacerations. The commission emphasized that these issues exacerbate the already serious concern of users becoming trapped between the bed rail and mattress. There have been no reported injuries linked to these specific recalls as of now.

Beloems, a manufacturer based in China, has announced the recall of 800 units of their product sold on Amazon between June and October 2025. These bed rails, identified by model number BL-BR201, feature white metal tubing and come equipped with black or gray foam rubber handle grips. Consumers can receive refunds by cutting the foam padding, marking the product as recalled, and submitting photographic evidence to the company.

Fortemotus, also a Chinese manufacturer, has equally recalled 550 units of its bed rails, sold on Amazon for approximately $100 from August to October 2025. The product, labeled as USFTMTJAS008, is characterized by black tubing and similar safety risks. Those affected can similarly secure refunds through a straightforward process involving photographs of the damaged product.

The CPSC has frequently issued warnings and recalls related to portable adult bed rails, citing several fatalities in recent years as part of an ongoing safety concern. Earlier this year, the organization flagged the CanFord brand, which had over 10,600 units sold on Amazon, due to similar risks of asphyxiation and entrapment.

Previously, additional brands such as Sangohe and Yolaah were also recalled, highlighting a troubling trend in safety compliance among manufacturers of portable bed rails. In light of an incident in October 2021, which resulted in the death of an 81-year-old nursing home resident, Platinum Health had to recall about 53,000 of its LumaRail brand units.

Starting August 21, 2023, all portable adult bed rails must meet new safety regulations aimed at preventing these dangerous entrapments. The CPSC continues to stress the importance of consumer vigilance, encouraging anyone who owns these recalled products to seek appropriate refunds and ensure their safety. As recalls continue to emerge, the agency remains committed to addressing these hazardous issues to prevent further incidents.
