MANSFIELD, Texas — A 20-year-old man is in jail on a $1 million bond, facing serious charges in connection with a violent incident that left one woman dead and a young child abducted. The situation led to a quick interstate response by law enforcement, prompting an AMBER Alert that garnered significant attention last month.
Authorities began their investigation on January 31 when police were called to a residence on Cotton Drive. There, officers discovered the body of 63-year-old Andrea Mata Colgrove, who had been fatally wounded. An autopsy later confirmed that she died from a stab wound to the neck, marking a tragic end to her life and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The primary suspect, Raymond Isaac Carmona, allegedly stole Colgrove’s vehicle after the crime. Investigators suggest that his actions were part of a plan to evade capture following the murder. As details emerged, it was revealed that Carmona also took a 4-year-old child, although the relationship between the suspect, Colgrove, and the child remains unclear.
Shortly after the abduction, law enforcement issued an AMBER Alert to the public, identifying the vehicle associated with the case. The alert proved effective, as it reached authorities in Missouri. Using advanced License Plate Reader technology, a trooper was able to track down the suspect’s vehicle.
Remarkably, just minutes after the alert was activated, a trooper located Carmona and apprehended him without incident. The child was found safe and returned to their family, alleviating some of the immediate concerns surrounding the abduction.
Carmona was extradited back to Tarrant County, where he faced a grand jury indictment on February 6. He is charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping, and theft of property, with his bail set at over $1 million. As he awaits trial, he remains in custody at the Tarrant County Jail.
His first court appearance is scheduled for February 23, where he will answer to the charges against him. The community has been left reeling from the incident, with many calling for justice as they grapple with the impact of this violent crime. Local law enforcement has expressed appreciation for the swift response of agencies involved in the successful outcome of the abduction.
