Yarm, United Kingdom – Jordan Kelly has been sentenced to four years in jail after a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. The incident took place at a block of flats in Yarm, where the couple resided. The 23-year-old Kelly, who was intoxicated and armed with a knife, unleashed a violent rampage that included physical assault, death threats, and use of a 10-inch blade against the victim’s throat.
According to prosecutor Kevin Wardlaw, Kelly and his ex-girlfriend had been in a toxic, controlling relationship for seven years before its end in July 2023. Wardlaw described the relationship as emotionally abusive, with Kelly often threatening his ex-girlfriend’s life with a knife at hand. On September 8, Kelly confronted his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, a former friend of his, with violent intentions, culminating in a brutal assault that left the victim fearing for his life.
Throughout the attack, Kelly was described as being in a “screaming rage,” prompting authorities to use an incapacitant spray to subdue him. Following his arrest, Kelly proceeded to assault a police officer and make further threats of violence. The severity of the attack led to Kelly being charged with affray, assault, possession of a bladed article, and assaulting an emergency worker.
In court, both victims expressed their fear of Kelly, with the male victim detailing the physical injuries he sustained during the assault. Kelly’s ex-partner described him as “obsessed” and a constant source of fear in her life. The judge presiding over the case, Recorder Melly KC, characterized the attack as “prolonged and persistent” and issued an indefinite restraining order against Kelly on behalf of both victims.
Kelly’s behavior in court, which included eye-rolling and smirking while the victims’ statements were read, further highlighted the disturbing nature of the case. The prosecutor emphasized Kelly’s intent to instill fear and inflict harm, painting a chilling picture of the events that unfolded during the violent attack.
