Prison Sentence for Braid SkyTrain Station Assault Suspect: 10 Years Received

New Westminster, British Columbia – A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a violent assault on a SkyTrain attendant at the Braid SkyTrain station in 2021.

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police confirmed that the suspect, Howard Geddes Skelding, 29, was arrested at the scene on July 5, 2021, after assaulting a SkyTrain attendant. The attendant fought off the attacker, sustaining a laceration and various soft tissue injuries during the ordeal. Despite the physical injuries healing, the emotional trauma continues to impact her.

Transit Police commended the attendant for her courage and resilience amid the horrific incident, as well as her willingness to confront the perpetrator in court. Const. Amanda Steed expressed gratitude to Crown counsel for their efforts in securing a significant sentence in the case.

Skelding was convicted of one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of forcible confinement. He remained in custody until his court date on May 2, 2024, where he received the 10-year prison sentence.
