The crash shut down both directions of Grand Avenue near Myrtle Avenue.
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Glendale police are investigating after a woman on a bicycle died Monday morning following a crash involving three vehicles on Grand Avenue near Myrtle Avenue.
The crash was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Police said officers found the woman unresponsive in the roadway. She was taken to a hospital and later died. Authorities had not publicly identified her as of Monday morning.
Investigators said Glendale’s Real-Time Crime Center reviewed the incident and found that the woman was hit first at Grand and Myrtle avenues. Police said two other vehicles then struck her. No vehicles were still at the scene when officers arrived.
Police said they did not yet have descriptions of the vehicles involved. Officers also said the drivers may be unaware they struck the woman. No suspected driver had been named, and police had not released details about possible charges.
The crash left a damaged bicycle in the roadway and forced police to close Grand Avenue in both directions from Orangewood Avenue to 57th Avenue. The closure affected a busy West Valley route during the morning commute. Officials did not provide an estimate for when the road would reopen.
Investigators were still working Monday to determine the full sequence of events. Police had not said whether the woman was crossing Grand Avenue, riding along it or stopped in the roadway before she was struck.
The case remained open Monday morning as Glendale police continued reviewing records and searching for the vehicles involved.
