Police said two people fled Castle Hill on a red-and-white scooter after the shooting.
NEW YORK, N.Y. — A 15-year-old boy was shot in the foot Thursday afternoon in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, prompting a search for two people who police said fled the area on a motorized scooter.
The shooting happened near Zerega and Randall avenues, where police tape blocked part of the intersection after officers responded around 4:19 p.m. The teen was taken to Jacobi Hospital and is expected to recover. No arrests had been announced.
Police said the suspects were last seen leaving on a red-and-white scooter or moped. Reports from the scene described two people dressed in black, and investigators were checking the area for video and witnesses. Their names, ages and connection to the teen were not released.
The shooting drew attention in a busy part of Castle Hill, a southeast Bronx neighborhood served by the NYPD’s 43rd Precinct. One neighbor, Timothy Ramirez, said the scene was unexpected because the area is “usually quiet” and filled with people heading to and from work.
Investigators were working to determine what led to the gunfire and whether the victim was targeted. Police had not said how many shots were fired, who fired them or whether the weapon had been recovered.
The case remained open Monday as detectives sought the scooter, the two people seen leaving the scene and any video from nearby homes or businesses.
