Police Say Old Sacramento Shooting Victim Was Also Wanted

The man later arrived at a Natomas fire station and was treated for a non-life-threatening wound.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man believed to have been wounded in an Old Sacramento shooting was arrested Saturday after police linked him to gunfire reported near Firehouse Alley and K Street, authorities said.

The shooting drew officers to the historic district just after 2 a.m. Police said officers heard gunshots in the area as dispatchers also received reports of shots fired. Officers found evidence of gunfire but did not find a victim at the scene.

The investigation changed a short time later when police learned that an adult male with a gunshot wound had arrived at a fire station in Natomas. He was taken to a hospital. Police said the wound was not life-threatening.

Investigators later said the man was believed to have been involved in the Old Sacramento incident. Police arrested him on an outstanding felony warrant and on suspicion of being a felon in possession of ammunition. His identity was not immediately released.

Police have not said whether the man was shot at the Old Sacramento scene or how he traveled to Natomas. Officials also have not said whether the shooting involved a dispute, how many shots were fired or whether anyone else was injured.

The location is a well-known part of Sacramento’s riverfront entertainment area. Firehouse Alley and K Street sit within blocks of bars, restaurants and tourist sites that can draw crowds late at night, especially on weekends.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, including the roles of everyone connected to the incident. No additional suspects or arrests had been announced as of Saturday morning.

Investigators are expected to review physical evidence, witness accounts and any available surveillance video from the area. Any charging decision beyond the warrant and ammunition allegation would depend on the results of the continuing investigation.

The case stood Saturday as both a shooting investigation and an arrest tied to an existing felony warrant.
