Police: Couple found dead in home; 61-year-old held without bond

Detectives say Sunday’s shooting on Twickenham Road appears targeted, not random.

PASADENA, Md. — Anne Arundel County police say a married couple, Jenna and William Hayes, were discovered shot to death in their Pasadena home on Sunday afternoon, and a 61-year-old man, identified as Anthony Reyes, was arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit.

The case moved quickly from a 911 call to an arrest within hours, according to police. Detectives say the recording captured part of a confrontation inside the home just before gunfire. Officers responding around 1:55 p.m. found the couple unresponsive and pronounced them dead at the scene. Authorities said the suspect and victims knew one another; they stressed there is no known threat to the wider community. Reyes faces two counts of first-degree murder and related charges and is being held without bond as the investigation continues.

Patrol officers cordoned off the 1700 block of Twickenham Road and canvassed nearby homes for doorbell and security footage. Investigators collected shell casings and other physical evidence inside the residence and examined a vehicle believed to be connected to the suspect. Neighbors reported hearing raised voices followed by rapid gunshots. Police vehicles and crime scene vans remained at the address into the evening while detectives interviewed residents and family members and secured search warrants for digital records.

Charging papers outline the timeline from the initial emergency call to the suspect’s capture after a short chase on area roads. Prosecutors said the evidence includes the 911 audio, witness accounts, and items recovered from both the house and vehicle. Officials have not released a motive. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting autopsies to determine the precise causes and manner of death. Investigators are reviewing ballistics and submitting forensic evidence for lab testing, including DNA and fingerprint analyses where possible.

Residents described the waterfront neighborhood as typically quiet. Public crime statistics show few recent violent incidents on that block. Several neighbors placed flowers by the mailbox and spoke in hushed tones as officers lifted the tape. “We’ve lived here a long time and never seen anything like this,” said Jim Carter, who lives a few doors down. Another neighbor, who asked not to be named, said she checked her security camera and gave the footage to police. “You could hear the sirens almost immediately,” she said.

Reyes had an initial appearance in district court and was ordered held without bond. Prosecutors said they intend to seek an indictment after additional evidence is processed. A preliminary hearing date will be set on the court docket. Police said further updates will follow when laboratory results return and once next-of-kin notifications are completed for extended family members.

As of Tuesday, detectives continued to collect neighborhood video and finalize reports for prosecutors. The next update is expected once the medical examiner releases findings and the court schedules a preliminary hearing.
