Crash in Northwest Las Vegas Claims Two Lives, Multiple Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision

LAS VEGAS — A tragic car crash in northwest Las Vegas late Tuesday resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left several others hospitalized, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:29 p.m. at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard. Authorities reported that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for a red light, colliding with multiple cars waiting at the intersection.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a total of 12 vehicles were involved in the collision. While initial reports confirmed the deaths of two drivers, further details showed that one of the deceased was a driver, while the other was a passenger in the vehicle of the accused.

The driver who allegedly caused the accident, identified as 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez, was taken to University Medical Center for treatment and was later booked in absentia on four counts of reckless driving leading to bodily injury or death.

Among the victims, a 20-year-old woman, who was a passenger in Gutierrez’s vehicle, and a 38-year-old male driver from another car, lost their lives. Emergency responders reported that a 24-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries, along with serious injuries to two other drivers, including Gutierrez himself, and a 27-year-old male.

Medical teams received the call shortly after the crash and began triaging victims at the scene, transporting several people to the hospital for immediate medical care. The response highlights the urgency and dedication of first responders during such high-stakes situations.

“This has to stop,” said Lt. Jose Hernandez during a press briefing Tuesday night, advocating for community efforts to address reckless driving. “We will put an end to this. It will take a community-wide commitment.”

The intersection where the crash took place was closed for several hours following the incident and reopened around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation, and updates are expected as new information emerges. This incident serves as a severe reminder of the perils of reckless driving and the tragic consequences that can follow.
