Operation Devil Hunt: Bangladesh Police Arrest 40 After Violent Attack on Student Activists

Dhaka, Bangladesh – In response to a violent attack on activists from a student group, authorities in Bangladesh have taken decisive action by arresting at least 40 individuals under “Operation Devil Hunt.” This operation was launched after assailants targeted the house of an Awami League leader in the outskirts of Dhaka, resulting in injuries and prompting police intervention.

Reports indicate that the attack took place during a mob assault on the residence of the Awami League leader, leading to vandalism and violence against student activists. The incident sparked the government to initiate “Operation Devil Hunt” in an effort to apprehend those responsible for the assault, which occurred in the Dhaka area.

The violence escalated further with another attack in Gazipur district, affecting both students and civilians. Following this incident, the police swiftly launched the operation which led to the arrest of 40 individuals from various parts of the district. The detainees are accused of destroying symbols associated with the Awami League party.

The clashes in the Southkhana area of Gazipur city have left at least 14 people injured, with the violence primarily targeted at the residence of Mojammel Haque, a minister involved in cases related to the pre-independence struggle. In light of these events, caretaker leader Muhammad Yunus has ordered a crackdown on the attackers to restore order and address the rising concerns over political violence in the country.

The ongoing investigation and arrests signal a significant effort by the government to uphold law and order amidst escalating tensions. Authorities are continuing their pursuit of other individuals involved in the attack as they strive to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of the community.

This swift operation serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the face of growing unrest. With the arrests underway and investigations ongoing, Bangladesh remains focused on addressing the root causes of political violence and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
