NORFOLK, Va. — On June 29th, the Norfolk community reflects on the tragic loss of Ali Muhammad, a 33-year-old man who was fatally shot on 1st Bay Street. Ali, the son of prominent community activist Bilal Muhammad, was known for his dedication to fighting against gun violence and working on local initiatives.

Bilal Muhammad, grief-stricken by the loss of his son, recalls the heartbreaking moment Ali was shot while they were on the phone. Ali, a father to three young daughters, was simply trying to leave for work when the altercation occurred. In the wake of Ali’s passing, Bilal and his wife Cynthia have taken on the responsibility of raising their granddaughters, honoring a promise made by Ali to always look after his girls.
