NIA Arrests Suspect in London Embassy Attack Conspiracy

New Delhi, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough on Thursday by apprehending a suspect in connection to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London that occurred in March 2023. The arrested individual, identified as Inderpal Singh Gaba from Hounslow, United Kingdom, was taken into custody in Delhi for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the protests following the attack.

NIA investigations into the case have uncovered a larger conspiracy behind the incidents that took place in London, linking them to a plan to launch vicious attacks on Indian missions and officials. These attacks were reportedly carried out in response to actions taken by the Punjab police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023.

In August of the previous year, NIA conducted searches at various locations suspected to be linked to the March 19 attack on the High Commission in London. The attack, perpetrated by a group of around 50 individuals, resulted in criminal trespass, desecration of India’s national flag, damage to public property, and injuries to High Commission officials.

According to the agency, the orchestrators of the attack included Gurcharan Singh from the Dal Khalsa, Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force (deceased in City Hospital, Birmingham on June 15, 2023), Jasvir Singh, and their accomplices, both domestic and foreign nationals. Following the incident, in May of the same year, an NIA team was dispatched to the U.K. to gather evidence and conduct a “crowdsourcing of information” to identify and collect information on entities and individuals involved in the alleged conspiracy.

The NIA’s relentless efforts in investigating the case have shed light on the intricate web of events leading up to the attack on the High Commission in London. The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba marks a significant step towards unraveling the complexities of the larger conspiracy and bringing those involved to justice. The agency’s commitment to pursuing the truth and ensuring accountability in such cases underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crimes and upholding diplomatic integrity.
