Murder warrant suspect fatally shot by Roswell detectives after high-speed chase

Roswell, New Mexico – Police detectives in Roswell, New Mexico, fatally shot a man last Thursday during an attempt to arrest him on a murder warrant. The incident took place on South Sunset Avenue in close proximity to West McGaffey Street in Roswell. Javier Harvey Salinas Jr., 27, was spotted driving a vehicle by detectives, leading to the confrontation.

Salinas was sought by authorities due to a warrant for murder and other charges related to the fatal shooting of Nicolas Elijah Montoya, 21, in Roswell. The suspect allegedly attempted to flee when detectives tried to stop him, reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph on South Sunset Avenue before crashing into a yard near West McGaffey Street. Upon exiting his vehicle, Salinas began firing at the detectives, who responded with gunfire, ultimately resulting in Salinas’ demise between two buildings.

Thankfully, apart from Salinas, no one else was harmed during the encounter with authorities. The New Mexico State Police have taken over the investigation into the shooting. The detectives involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending further developments in the case. Ray Wilson, a spokesperson for the NMSP, has announced that a press release with updates regarding the investigation will be issued soon.
