Murder-Suicide Tragedy Strikes Olney High School Community in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A tragic incident unfolded in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry neighborhood, as a special education compliance monitor and teacher at Olney High School lost her life in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide on Sunday.

The police responded to a distressing scene at an apartment on South 30th Street, where they discovered Ondria Glaze, 36, with a fatal gunshot wound to her face. Rick Harper, 42, was also found in the apartment, having sustained a gunshot wound to the head that authorities suspect to be self-inflicted.

Authorities have disclosed that they believe Harper shot Glaze before turning the gun on himself, resulting in the untimely demise of both individuals at the scene.

The principal of Olney High School, Michael Roth, penned a heartfelt letter to parents, expressing sorrow over the loss of the “special education compliance monitor and long-time beloved Olney teacher.” He described the deceased as a cherished personal friend who embodied the spirit of “Olney Love,” a sentiment shared throughout the school community.

To honor Glaze’s memory, the school has established a scholarship in her name, known as “The Ondria Glaze, Olney Love Scholarship.” This scholarship will be bestowed upon a graduating student annually, acknowledging their embodiment of Olney Love through their actions within the school community.
