Grand Prairie, Texas — A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning, resulting in the death of a 44-year-old woman and leaving her husband deceased in what police have termed a murder-suicide situation. Soukdavanh Thidavanh was found dead inside her residence while her son sustained injuries during the altercation, prompting a police response.
According to authorities, officers received a report around 10 p.m. on Sunday regarding a domestic violence incident. A man had reported that he was shot in the face while trying to intervene in a confrontation between his parents. He managed to escape to a nearby neighbor’s house to call for help.
Upon their arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the alleged shooter but were unsuccessful. Knowing someone was still inside the home, they forcibly entered, only to be met with gunfire. The shooter fired from a rifle, prompting officers to return fire. The situation escalated as the suspect retreated further into the residence.
After a tense standoff, the man, whose identity has not yet been released, was discovered deceased in the bathroom from what police believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Meanwhile, Thidavanh was found in a bedroom, suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene.
Thidavanh’s son was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
During the incident, an officer sustained minor injuries from ricochet bullets. That officer received treatment at the hospital and has been released. Fortunately, no other officers were harmed during the confrontation.
