Chicago, Illinois, experienced a tragic incident when Oscar Ochoa-Tello was shot and killed in what authorities are investigating as a murder-for-hire plot. Neighbors recalled seeing Ochoa-Tello just before the deadly shots rang out early on November 5. Roberto Morean, a resident in the area, was at home when he heard the gunfire erupt around 5:20 a.m., just shortly after he had settled in to watch television.
At the time of the shooting, Ochoa-Tello was in his vehicle, preheating it before leaving for work. Witness reports indicated that a relative quickly transported him to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was subsequently airlifted due to the severity of his injuries.
Law enforcement officials described the circumstances surrounding the case as particularly unusual. “It’s a very unique set of circumstances in this investigation,” said Christopher Covelli, a spokesperson for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Detectives swiftly began their inquiry, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras, which revealed the presence of a suspicious vehicle in the area the day prior to the shooting.
The detectives noted that the vehicle, spotted on November 4, was unusual due to its repeated presence in the same vicinity two days in a row. Utilizing Flock license plate reader technology, investigators were able to identify and trace the vehicle back to Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. “They found that vehicle registered in Mount Pleasant was also present on November 5, which is peculiar given the distance it traveled,” Covelli explained.
Following leads from the footage, detectives traveled to Mount Pleasant and located 28-year-old Cristian Ruval-Cavatorres, who is now facing multiple charges in connection with the incident. Sources have indicated that this murder could be tied to a larger drug-related killing in Mexico, adding a complex layer to the investigation.
A second suspect, a resident of North Chicago, is also in custody for possible links to the crime. However, authorities have not yet released the individual’s name or filed any charges against them.
