BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 26-year-old woman has been charged with murder following a shooting incident that left a man dead in Birmingham. Brittney Watson faces charges not only for murder but also for discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling related to the fatal encounter with 30-year-old Anson Quandarius Henderson.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when police were called to a home in the Collegeville community for reports of a domestic disturbance. Officers were dispatched just before 10:15 a.m. and, while en route, they observed a vehicle leaving the scene at high speed.
Upon stopping the vehicle, police detained the driver as other officers approached the residence. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Henderson on the front porch, showing no signs of life. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators have indicated that a domestic argument took place between Henderson and the mother of his children prior to the shooting. Following the confrontation, the mother departed the home, only for another vehicle to arrive moments later, during which shots were fired at Henderson.
Authorities have since identified Watson as the alleged shooter, stating that she attempted to flee the neighborhood after the incident. Officers were able to detain her shortly thereafter.
Birmingham police confirmed that Watson is related to the woman involved in the initial disturbance, making the circumstances of the shooting even more complex. Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that Watson will be booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where she will remain without bond.
This tragic incident highlights the escalating issue of domestic violence and the potential for violence that can arise from such conflicts. As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the implications of this incident while police work to uncover further details surrounding the case.
