Pembroke, N.C. – A 20-year-old man, Kalon Dial, is facing serious charges following a shooting near the campus of the University of North Carolina Pembroke. Robeson County authorities reported on Thursday that two individuals were killed and four others were wounded in the incident that occurred earlier this month.
District Attorney Matt Scott confirmed that Dial appeared in court for the first time on Thursday and is facing two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. The shooting, which took place on March 2, resulted in the tragic deaths of Cameron Taylor, a nursing sophomore and member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, and Nicholas Logan, who was not a student at the university.
During Dial’s court appearance, bond was not addressed by the judge, and an attorney was appointed to represent him. Such procedures are common during initial court hearings, according to Scott. Dial was subsequently booked into the Robeson County Detention Center on Wednesday.
