Murder Charge: Boston Man Faces First-Degree Murder Charges in Fatal Porch Shooting of 18-Year-Old G’Kiyah Lewis

BOSTON — A 22-year-old man faced charges in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman last October. Dhkrai Wornum-Brown was arraigned Tuesday on allegations of first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm in the death of G’Kiyah Lewis, who lived in Malden.

The incident occurred on October 11, when Lewis was shot while standing on a front porch in Mattapan. She succumbed to her injuries three weeks later, leaving behind a community in mourning. In addition to Lewis, two other individuals suffered injuries during the shooting, although their conditions were reported as non-life-threatening.

As authorities investigate, they have issued a warrant for a second suspect believed to be involved in the incident. This ongoing search reflects the determination of law enforcement to ensure accountability in this tragic case.

During Tuesday’s court proceedings, Wornum-Brown entered a not-guilty plea to all charges. His legal team stated that they intend to fully contest the accusations, which they characterized as serious.

The court has scheduled a probable cause hearing for February, during which evidence against Wornum-Brown will be further examined. Community members have expressed their grief and frustration over the violence that has marred their neighborhoods, calling for justice and tougher measures to protect residents.

This case underscores broader issues concerning gun violence in urban environments, prompting discussions among residents and officials on how to prevent such tragedies in the future. As the legal process unfolds, the community remains hopeful for resolution and healing.
