Motorcycle Gunmen Kill Woman, Wound Teens In Chicago SUV Attack

Police said gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on an SUV in Back of the Yards.

CHICAGO, Ill. — A 26-year-old woman was killed and two teens were seriously wounded Tuesday afternoon when two people on a motorcycle fired into an SUV in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of West 50th Street, near South Hermitage Avenue. Police said the victims were inside a Honda SUV traveling west when the motorcycle pulled alongside and both riders opened fire.

The woman was shot in the back and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said an 18-year-old man was shot in the right hip and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the left arm and leg and was listed in critical condition.

After the gunfire, the SUV struck a parked vehicle before stopping. Video from a nearby security camera captured more than 10 gunshots, according to local reports. A neighbor who did not want to be named said two wounded victims ran from the vehicle after the shooting.

“One of them, he just looked at me and said, ‘Call the cops! Call the cops!’” the neighbor said. The witness said another person was limping and dropped a phone that appeared to have been hit by a bullet.

Police had not announced any arrests as of Wednesday. The shooters were described only as two people on a motorcycle. Detectives were reviewing video and working to learn what led to the attack.

The shooting left bullet damage on the SUV and drew police and emergency crews to a residential stretch of West 50th Street. The names of the victims had not been released.

Area detectives continued the investigation Wednesday, with no court dates or charges announced.
