Brisbane, Australia – Following a series of tragic events at the Prince Charles Hospital unit, Health Minister Shannon Fentiman has announced that a thorough review is currently underway. In the past 16 months, three individuals have died by suicide at the facility, with an additional two patients causing harm to themselves during this time frame.
Expressing her condolences to the families affected by these incidents, Fentiman emphasized the distressing nature of such losses and assured that the government is actively engaging with the families as part of the review process. Queensland Health is prepared to implement any recommendations that may arise from the review, which is anticipated to be completed by midyear.
In response to the incidents, a clinical review has already been conducted, leading to several improvements within the hospital unit. These enhancements include the reinforcement of frontline staff and the forthcoming opening of a new crisis stabilization unit scheduled for September.
