Methamphetamine-Fueled Hostage Attack Leads to Guilty Pleas and Awaited Sentencing

Adelaide, Australia – Angela Antartis, 26, and Zoran Aligrudic, 44, will soon face sentencing following their guilty pleas in connection to a violent hostage situation that took place in Kilkenny in January 2023.

The ordeal, fueled by methamphetamine, involved the brutal physical and psychological torment of a man who was forcibly detained by Antartis and Aligrudic. The victim, in his victim impact statement, described the harrowing experience as the worst event of his life, leaving him scarred both mentally and physically.

During the violent assault, the victim was subjected to dehumanizing acts such as being forced to strip naked and having parts of his hair and beard cut off. The motive behind the attack stemmed from the duo’s mistaken belief that the victim had committed a crime and pleaded guilty to it.

Antartis, from Woodville North, admitted to charges of false imprisonment and multiple counts of assault. Meanwhile, Aligrudic also pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and firearm possession, with his lawyer attributing the impulsive behavior to methamphetamine use following personal struggles.

Antartis’ legal team pointed to her troubled childhood and subsequent methamphetamine addiction as factors contributing to her criminal actions. While awaiting sentencing, she is seeking rehabilitation programs with hopes for a fresh start upon release.

The sentencing for both defendants, to be delivered by Judge Rauf Soulio, is set to take place in the coming month. The aftermath of this brutal attack highlights the devastating impact of drug-fueled violence and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such actions on individuals and communities.
