Two brothers are accused in the killing of businessman Reynaldo Rodis II, while questions remain about others involved in the robbery.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The arrests of two men in Minnesota have moved a Las Vegas robbery investigation into a new phase nearly two weeks after businessman and boxing promoter Reynaldo Rodis II was fatally shot while police say he tried to stop a robbery.
Antwan Terry, 36, and Anthony Terry, 38, were taken into custody Oct. 27 in St. Paul on Las Vegas arrest warrants. Authorities accuse the men of taking part in the Oct. 15 robbery at a business complex in the 3400 block of East Flamingo Road. Both were being held in Minnesota pending extradition to Nevada.
The arrests answer one of the most immediate questions facing Rodis’ family after the killing, but the wider investigation is not finished. Police initially said three men entered the business intending to commit a robbery. Court records described by local news organizations have indicated a broader group may have played roles surrounding the crime, leaving investigators to determine the responsibility of everyone involved.
Police were called to the business at about 11:40 a.m. Oct. 15 after receiving a report of a shooting. Officers found Rodis, 45, suffering from a gunshot wound inside the complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the robbery unfolded after several men entered the complex. Arrest-warrant accounts say employees were forced to gather marijuana while armed suspects carried out the robbery. Rodis confronted the group and tried to intervene, according to police. He was shot during the encounter.
Documents describing the investigation say the Terry brothers had been at the business the previous day. Reports based on the warrants say an employee had contacted them during an earlier dispute involving another person and property valued at about $200. Investigators allege the brothers returned the next day as part of the robbery. The earlier dispute has emerged as part of the chronology investigators used to trace the suspects, but authorities have not alleged that Rodis’ killing itself was planned in advance.
Surveillance evidence became a significant part of the investigation. Reports describing the warrants say video captured activity inside the business and helped investigators track the movements and communications of people suspected of involvement. Police also interviewed employees and others connected to the men as detectives worked to establish what happened before and after the shooting.
Anthony and Antwan Terry were identified as suspects in the days following the killing. Police obtained warrants, and investigators later learned the men were in Minnesota. The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office arrested them in St. Paul, where they were booked into the county detention center.
Each man faces an open murder charge with use of a deadly weapon, four counts of robbery with use of a deadly weapon, four counts of first-degree kidnapping with use of a deadly weapon and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, according to police. The accusations have not been proven in court.
The case has also drawn attention to the men’s criminal histories. Nevada records cited by 8 News Now show Antwan Terry had previous convictions including battery with a deadly weapon, firearm possession by a convicted felon and attempted burglary. Anthony Terry had prior convictions that included pandering, living from the earnings of prostitution and attempted robbery. Those convictions are separate from the allegations arising from Rodis’ death.
For Rodis’ relatives, the case is also about the loss of a father, businessman and longtime figure in boxing. His family has said he was a third-generation boxing promoter and had multiple business interests. He left behind a 19-year-old son. Relatives and friends gathered for a prayer vigil after his death and publicly called for answers and arrests.
Family members expressed relief after learning two suspects had been captured, while emphasizing that the criminal case remains unfinished. Police have not announced that every person believed to have participated in the robbery has been arrested. Investigators continue to examine the roles of others while Antwan and Anthony Terry await extradition to Las Vegas and their first proceedings on the Nevada charges.
