Manitoba Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Deaths of Family Members

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – A 29-year-old man in Manitoba is facing charges for the first-degree murder of five family members, including his wife, three young children, and a teenage relative. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced the charges and revealed the tragic details of the case on Monday.

RCMP Inspector Tim Arseneault described the incident as an “unimaginable tragedy” for the family and friends of the victims. The community of Carman, where the family resided, is also mourning the devastating loss.

The victims include the suspect’s 30-year-old wife, their six-year-old daughter, four-year-old son, and two-month-old daughter, as well as the wife’s 17-year-old niece. All of them lived together in Carman, and their deaths occurred at multiple crime scenes in and around the town, located 85 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg.

The horrific events unfolded on a Sunday, starting with a report of a hit-and-run where the woman was found dead in a ditch. Subsequently, the police found the suspect’s children dead near a burning vehicle, and the body of the teenage niece was discovered in the family home. Ryan Howard Manoakeesick of Carman was taken into custody in connection with the deaths.

As autopsies were being conducted, the police declined to release the names of the victims and provide further details about the investigation. Meanwhile, the small white bungalow where the family resided was sectioned off with police tape, with forensic crews working on the premises. Amidst the tragic scene, children’s toys and a bike were scattered across the back lawn.

During a news conference, Premier Wab Kinew expressed his condolences and emphasized the profound impact of the tragedy on the entire province of Manitoba. He spoke of the sacred bonds that exist within families and resonated with people from all walks of life who understand and cherish these connections.

The tight-knit community of Carman and the surrounding area has been deeply affected by the heartbreaking loss, and authorities continue to investigate the devastating incident while supporting the grieving family and friends.
