Police said the 22-year-old victim was found shot in a vacant lot.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A 22-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday at a car meet in Philadelphia’s Feltonville section, where police said officers found him wounded in a vacant lot on Rising Sun Avenue.
Philadelphia police are investigating the shooting, which happened around 1:20 a.m. Sunday on the 4300 block of Rising Sun Avenue. No arrests had been announced as of Sunday afternoon, and police had not released the victim’s name.
Officers were called to the area for a report of a person shot at the scene of a car meet. When they arrived, police said vehicles were leaving the lot as officers moved in. Captain Louis Higginson said officers found the man face down on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Higginson said officers quickly placed the wounded man in a police vehicle and drove him to Temple University Hospital. He was pronounced dead there at 1:41 a.m., about 20 minutes after the reported shooting.
Witnesses told police an argument led to the shooting. Police did not say how many people were involved in the dispute, whether the shooter was known to the victim or whether any weapon had been recovered from the scene.
The shooting happened along a commercial stretch of Rising Sun Avenue in North Philadelphia. Police described the location as a vacant lot where a car meet was taking place before gunfire broke out.
Investigators were still working Sunday to identify a suspect and determine what led to the argument. Police had not announced charges, a motive or additional injuries connected to the shooting.
The case remained open Sunday, with detectives reviewing what witnesses reported from the scene. The next public update is expected after police identify the victim or announce an arrest.
