Man Accused of Stealing Ambulance for Beer Run

Police said the suspect drove from a Church Street gas station to Kennestone Hospital.

MARIETTA, Ga. — A Georgia man faces multiple charges after police said he stole an ambulance, drove it to a hospital and was recorded drinking beer while behind the wheel.

The Marietta Police Department said Eric Jacore Jordan took the ambulance from a gas station on Church Street. Officers said the vehicle was later found at Kennestone Hospital, where Jordan allegedly tried to enter through restricted hospital doors.

The case began when a hospital security guard, working as an off-duty officer, saw Jordan at the emergency medical services bay. Police said Jordan was told he could not enter there, but he then tried other secure entrances, including a pediatrics door.

As Jordan walked away, the officer heard a radio call about a stolen ambulance suspect on Church Street. Police said Jordan matched the description. Officers stopped him, asked for his license and detained him after he kept pacing near a patrol vehicle.

The ambulance driver later identified Jordan as the person who took the vehicle, police said. An EMT supervisor also gave investigators video that showed Jordan drinking beer while driving the ambulance without a seat belt. Officers said Jordan made several admissions and told them he took the ambulance to save the world.

Police said Jordan showed signs of alcohol impairment, including glossy, bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. He was arrested on charges that include DUI, felony theft by taking, driving with a suspended license, open container and no seat belt.

No crash or injury was reported in the police account. The stolen ambulance was recovered, and the charges remain pending as the case continues in Cobb County.
