London High Commission Attack Suspect Arrested by NIA in Major Breakthrough

New Delhi, India – In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced the arrest of an individual connected to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London in March 2023. The accused, identified as Inderpal Singh Gaba, was apprehended in Delhi for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the protests that occurred on March 22, 2023. According to the NIA, these events were part of a broader conspiracy to carry out attacks on Indian missions and officials.

The NIA revealed that the incidents in London in March 2023 were in retaliation to the actions taken by the Punjab police against Amritpal Singh, a pro-Khalistani separatist, a day earlier. The agency emphasized that the attacks on the High Commission in London involved criminal trespass, disrespecting India’s national flag, damaging public property, and causing harm to High Commission officials. Individuals such as Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa, Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force (who passed away in Birmingham’s City Hospital), and Jasvir Singh were named as organizers of the attack, along with their associates, both Indian and foreign nationals.

In an effort to gather evidence, a NIA team was dispatched to the U.K. in May of the previous year. Through “crowdsourcing of information,” authorities aimed to identify and collect information on entities and individuals based in the U.K. who were allegedly involved in the conspiracy. In August, the NIA conducted searches at various locations linked to suspects believed to be connected to the March 19 attack on the High Commission in London, in response to which arrests were made to further the investigation into the matter.

The arrests made by the NIA are a significant step in unraveling the larger conspiracy behind the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London. The agency continues to investigate the case to bring all perpetrators to justice and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The involvement of individuals across borders underscores the complexity and seriousness of the situation, prompting authorities to take robust measures to address and mitigate such threats to diplomatic missions and officials.
