Knife-Wielding Man Jailed for Violent Attack on Ex-Partner’s Boyfriend in Yarm

Yarm, England – A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. Jordan Kelly, 23, carried out the assault at a block of flats in Yarm, while intoxicated and wielding a knife. The incident took place after Kelly’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend ended in July 2023, following a seven-year partnership characterized by controlling and mentally abusive behavior.

During the rampage, Kelly made death threats, physically assaulted the man, and demonstrated a concerning level of aggression towards both his ex-girlfriend and the new boyfriend. He even went as far as holding a knife with a 10-inch blade to the man’s throat, inflicting significant harm through punches and bites. Kelly’s actions displayed a pattern of dangerous and threatening behavior towards the victims.

The prosecution highlighted the intensity of the attack, emphasizing the perpetrator’s uncontrolled rage and determination to cause harm. Kelly’s ex-girlfriend expressed genuine fear for her safety, stating that he had become fixated on her in an unhealthy and obsessive manner. The violent nature of the assault left the male victim with severe injuries, including temporary loss of vision in one eye for three weeks.

In court, Kelly admitted to charges ranging from assault to possession of a bladed article and making threats to kill. The judge presiding over the case described the attack as prolonged and persistent, involving the use of a highly dangerous weapon. As a result of the sentencing, an indefinite restraining order was issued to protect both victims from any future harm.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of domestic violence and the impact it can have on individuals’ lives. It underscores the importance of swift and decisive legal action to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and ensure the safety and well-being of victims. The sentencing also highlights the need for ongoing support and resources for those affected by domestic abuse to prevent future incidents.
