Joliet Police Find Alleged Serial Shooter Romeo Nance Dead in Texas

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) – A man wanted for shooting nine people, eight of whom died, across four separate crime scenes in Joliet, Illinois, has been found dead. Romeo Nance, 23, was located by US Marshals near Natalia, Texas, on Monday evening. The Joliet police believe he took his own life following a confrontation with Texas law enforcement officials.

The shooting spree left seven people dead in two homes on West Acres Road, with the victims’ names, genders, and ages not yet released. Another person was found dead in a separate location the night before. Will County Deputy Sheriff Dan Jungles reported that person, identified as 28-year-old Toyosi Bakare, was originally from Nigeria and had been in Will County for the past three years.

The incidents led to a 12-hour surveillance operation, where deputies found more fatalities at Nance’s last known address. Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans described it as “the worst crime scene” he had ever encountered in his 29-year career.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Joliet Police Department. The motive behind Nance’s actions remains unclear, and there is ongoing concern for the safety and well-being of the community.
