STRATFORD, WARWICKSHIRE – A man from Child’s Close in Stratford has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in jail after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and assault by beating. Patrick Cassidy, aged 38, unleashed a violent attack on a man in the street after a day of heavy drinking, leaving the victim with serious injuries to his face and arm.
The incident occurred at around 7pm on October 1, 2023, when Cassidy attacked a man who was walking to a friend’s house in Child’s Close. The 40-year-old victim was punched in the head by Cassidy, and when the victim’s friend came out to confront him, she too was assaulted. Cassidy then turned his attention back to the male victim and continued his brutal attack, ultimately leaving him with fractures to his eye socket and arm, along with a footprint on his face.
Witnesses informed the police that Cassidy had punched the victim multiple times and even stamped on his head, with the attack only stopping when another man intervened. Cassidy was quickly apprehended and taken into custody within half an hour of the attack.
Although Cassidy did not deny carrying out the attack, he claimed not to remember it due to heavy drinking throughout the day. Warwickshire Police CID B Shift’s Simon Harvey described the attack as “horrific and unprovoked,” emphasizing the significant injuries that the victim sustained and expressing relief at delivering justice for the victim while ensuring that a dangerous man is now behind bars.
Warwickshire Police considers tackling serious violent crime as a priority and hopes that convictions such as this demonstrate their determination to hold those responsible to account. This incident serves as a reminder of the impact of alcohol-fueled violence and the destructive consequences it can have on the lives of victims.
