Najee Ali, executive director of Project Islamic Hope, expressed his belief that Keith Porter Jr. was unjustly killed by the agent. “The claim from the Department of Homeland Security that Porter was an ‘active shooter’ is not only misleading but completely false,” Ali stated, pointing to eyewitness accounts that suggest Porter was discharging his rifle into the air as part of a traditional New Year’s celebration rather than targeting anyone. According to Ali, numerous witnesses are prepared to corroborate this version of events.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight on December 31, when LAPD officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire at the apartment complex located on Roscoe Boulevard.
