Illegal Immigrant Arrested as 5th Suspect in Maryland Shooting that Killed Toddler

Montgomery County, Md. – Authorities have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with a tragic shooting in Maryland that claimed the life of a 2-year-old child. According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Nilson Granados-Trejo, was found to be residing in the U.S. illegally. Granados-Trejo had previously been detained and ordered deported in 2022 from Montgomery County but was released on two occasions by county corrections officials.

Granados-Trejo, who faces charges of first and second-degree murder, remains in custody at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. The shooting, which took place on February 8 near Langley Park, involved a confrontation between rival groups. Witnesses reported that a group known for selling fentanyl in the area opened fire on another group attempting to enter their territory, resulting in the tragic death of 2-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres, who succumbed to his injuries. Jeremy’s mother was also wounded in the incident but survived.

In addition to Granados-Trejo, several other individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting, including a 15-year-old male from Takoma Park, a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville, 33-year-old Israel Fuentes Jr. of Lewisdale, and 28-year-old Johnny Turcios. The two teenagers have been charged as adults, while Fuentes and Turcios have been denied bond. Law enforcement officials are currently seeking two additional persons of interest who were captured on camera fleeing the scene in a 2003 gold Ford Explorer.
