Heroic act leads to tragedy: man shot while trying to save others in Greensboro club shooting

Greensboro, North Carolina – Greensboro authorities have identified the victims of a fatal shooting at Culture Lounge as Mohsin Hamid, 33, and Devonte Johnson, 28. The incident resulted in the deaths of two men and left a woman hospitalized. The shooting occurred inside the club in the early hours of Friday morning when around 100 patrons were present.

Emergency services, including Greensboro Police Department, Guilford County EMS, and UNCG Campus Police, responded to the scene shortly after 1:20 a.m. Life-saving measures were initiated for multiple gunshot victims inside the establishment. According to a family friend, Mohsin Hamid had showcased selfless bravery by intervening to help another victim before being fatally shot by the assailant. Described as a selfless act, Hamid’s friend, Ali Jama, recounted how Hamid had celebrated his 33rd birthday the night before the tragic incident. The community gathered in mourning as details emerged about the senseless act of violence.

In addition to the fatalities, a woman was also injured and taken to the hospital, where she remains in stable condition. Greensboro Mayor Vaughan visited the crime scene to assess the situation and pledged to work with authorities to address gun violence in local bars and clubs. She expressed concern over the impact of promoters on such establishments and vowed to explore potential solutions to prevent future tragedies.
